What this is not
Not a whistleblowing, grievance, HR or safety channel
A campaign describes work. It is not a route for a serious concern, and treating it as one would put the person raising the concern in a worse position than saying nothing.
Stated plainly
- It is not a whistleblowing channel.
- It is not a grievance route.
- It is not an HR case system.
- It is not a safety or safeguarding reporting channel.
- Submissions are not monitored as an urgent or serious-concern reporting service. Use your organisation’s appropriate reporting route.
There is no case file, no escalation, no acknowledgement and no investigator. An organisation buying a campaign is told the same thing, so nobody is expecting a serious concern to arrive through it.
Why we are blunt about this
A channel that looks like a safe route for a serious concern, but is not, is worse than no channel at all: it delays the person who needs action, and it may leave them with nothing recorded where it matters. So the campaign pages say this to the people taking part, not just to the buyer.
Where a serious concern belongs
- Use the route your organisation already has: a manager, an HR or personnel team, a written grievance procedure, a safety report, or a whistleblowing route if one exists. Those are the routes that carry a duty to act.
- In the UK there are also routes outside the organisation, depending on what the concern is. A serious risk to health and safety, unlawful conduct, and a data protection concern each go somewhere different, and the organisation itself or a body such as Acas can tell you which one applies to your situation.
- If somebody is in immediate danger, that is a matter for the emergency services.
This page does not tell you which route applies to your situation, and it is not legal advice. If you are not sure, ask the organisation itself, a union representative if you have one, or an advice service. The important part is that a concern with consequences needs a route that carries a duty to act, and this tool carries none.
